Prime junk

What we have here is some old but treasured junk - i.e. stand-alone sources of some games from the old Glaxo games package (once upon a time fairly well known amongst Prime users).

Except for Adventure4+, all games in this collection are written in Prime FTN (a dialect of Fortran IV) and are supplied as gzipped tarballs (or just gzipped source files, where only one file is involved). The Bomber and Startrek manuals are in the Prime Runoff format.

ANSI C ports also exist, for CHIMAERA, MOO, OX3D and and SUMERIA. More may follow eventually.

In the unlikely case of anybody wishing to build these sources on any pre-EPF Primes still in operation, I include remarks concerning the linking modes (32R, 64V or dynamic)

Enjoy!

ADVENTURE4+

Prior to Adv770, the proudest of the MLA productions, these days known on the Net as ADV660. This is my merging (with some minor extensions and many an additional quip!) of Luckett's and Pike's AdventureII (a.k.a. ADV440) and Dave Platt's Adventure550 (a.k.a. ADV550). The above link leads to a separate downloads page, where ADV660 can be picked up.

The game is written in A-code, but C sources derived from the A-code source by an A-code to C translator, are also available from the same page. These require nothing beyond an ANSI C compiler.

BOMBER (21.8 KB)

Standart but with some debugging, greatly improved user interface and an occasional surprise at the home base. The gzipped tarball consists of the directory bomber, which contains:

  • Source file bomber.ftn
  • Runoff manual bomber.runi

(Works in Prime 32R mode.)

CHIMAERA (39.0 KB) – ANSI C port also available from the ANSI C ports page

An unusual, "infinite" adventure game written by Chris Newall. The gzipped tarball consists of the directory chimaera, which contains:

  • README
  • chimaera.ftn
  • chimaera.ins.ftn
  • chimaera_news.ins.ftn

(Should work in 32R.)

KALA (7.2 KB)

An original MLA production. A powerful player of one of the mankalah class of games. Consists of:

  • Just the gzipped source file kala.ftn

(Must be in Prime dynamic mode [64V] to allow recursion, but can be split into segment 4000.)

LANDER (5.6 KB)

Like many other Lunar landers, but mass varies as the fuel is burnt - much more difficult! Consists of:

  • Just the gzipped source file lander.ftn

(Works in 32R.)

LAP (5.9 KB)

Variants also known as 'Grand Prix', 'Motor Racing' etc. User interface somewhat improved. Consists of:

  • Just the gzipped source file lap.ftn

(Works in 32R.)

MOO (7.9 KB) – ANSI C port also available from the ANSI C ports page.

Another original MLA production. MOO (alias Mastermind) supervisor and an indipendent, pretty strong player. Consists of:

  • Just the gzipped source file moo.ftn or moo.c, as appropriate

(The FTN version Works in 32R.)

OX3D (10.3 KB) – ANSI C port also available from the ANSI C ports page.

And yet another MLA original! :-) A powerful player of 3D Noughts & Crosses - can suggest moves or play against itself. The FTN gzipped tarball consists of the directory ox3d, which contains contains:

  • Source file ox3d.ftn
  • Include file ox3d.ins.ftn

(The FTN version needs Prime dynamic mode [64V] but can be split into segment 4000.)

STARTREK (59.1 KB)

The Texas university offering much tidied up. The gzipped tarball consists of the directory startrek, which contains:

  • Source file startrek.ftn
  • Include file startrek.ins.ftn
  • Runoff manual startrek.runi

(Needs Prime 64V mode, but can be split into segment 4000.)

SUMERIA (7.2 KB) – ANSI C port also available from the ANSI C ports page.

Good old "Hamurabi" made more difficult by a user transparent re-write of the internal ecology. Consists of:

  • Just the gzipped source file sumeria.ftn

(Works in 32R.)
